The Story
I’m Martin. One day I crashed my boat and messed up the propeller. I took it off and didn’t have the heart to throw it away, so I made it into a touch sensitive lamp (shown below) which still serves me well.
I’ve made many of these ‘nautical’ lamps for people who love boats who are far better at driving boats than I am.
That’s how ‘Unusual Lamps’ got started. Above all though, I loved turning unusual objects into lamps using objects that mean something to people.
It could be as simple as a particular design on a can of beer, an usual piece of wood washed up on the beach, a sea-rounded brick or an old hat their grandfather used to wear.
Although I hold a very limited stock of completed lamps, I do have a growing stock of unusual items that can made be into lamps.
I also hold a far too large itinerary of LED bulbs, controllers, switches (including smart switches), boxes, dimmers etc. If you want a particular dimmable bulb with a particular wiggly bit, I will probably have one.
Each lamp is made to order to an individual specification so you can be guaranteed that no two lamps will be the same. If they are, I might be getting boring.
All the lamps I make can be operated in any way you choose. A switch, dimmer, or a sensor of many sorts. This includes Alexa or Google if you enjoy talking to household appliances or fiddling with your phone.
